This video is dedicated to Sr J. R. Views of this museum and the cars he helped restore appear in this video. Sadly, Sr Rocha died earlier this month. He was a great ambassador for STCP (the Porto tramway operator) and embraced visiting enthusiasts from many countries as if they were part of his family (which, in a way we were). He will be sadly missed. The city of Porto (Cidade Invicta - Unconquered City) once boas...

If you stumble upon my channel, chances are you like guitar driven music. I was in Portugal recently. Their local music is called Fado and it is wonderful. Typically you have a singer, a classical guitar player and a lead guitar player on Portuguese guitar (looks like an oversized mandolin, with 12 strings). The second song in this compilation is my favorite, so please enjoy at least the first two songs. Please relay your thoughts in the comments. For anyone traveling to Portugal (and you should!), locations are: First song: Fado ao Centro in Coimbra. Rua do Queba Costas #7 - 3000-340 Coimbra. This is like a non-profit institute with nightly performances to help preserve the Coimbra style Fado. Admission is around 10 euros, you watch a performance by current and former students from the prestigious Coimbra University, then they serve you a glass of port at the end. The remaining performances are in the Alfama neighborhood in Lisbon, where Fado was born and still thrives. The many dark, candle lit performances are at Mesa de Frades, Rua dos Remedios, 139A. You have to make reservations here. Admission is around 45 euros. Performances start at 10pm. Admission includes an upscale 3-course meal and unlimited beverage/alcohol prior to the performance. They want you to arrive by 8pm and have a leisurely dinner. The interior has beautiful 16th century title decor and the quality of the music was the best I encountered. If you don't have a reservation, stand outside the door after 10pm and wait for a break in the music. Knock loudly. Ask if you can come in for a drink, and if space permits, they'll allow you to stand by the bar. After sampling this place, I guarantee you will want to make a reservation for the following night. The last several performances were right up the road at a tapas bar/restaurant called A Bela, at Rua dos Remedios, 190. The tapas and sangria were outstanding. Fado is so great. They just squeeze the performers right in the middle of these cramped "Fado houses", and if anyone makes noise during the performance they immediately get "shooshed!!". The players perform a series of roughly 20-minute sets, all acoustic (no amps/mics), and when they break, more food and beverage are ordered and consumed, then the musicians come back on. This cycle repeats for several hours.

Native American Flute Music: Meditation Music for Shamanic Astral Projection, Healing Music Shamanism is a system for psychic, emotional, and spiritual healing and for exploration, discovery, and knowledge gathering about non-material worlds and states of mind. Shamanism is a "technique of ecstasy" in which the spirit of the shaman leaves the body and travels to communicate with spirit helpers and other beings for the purpose of obtaining knowledge, power, or healing. Shamanic Astral Projection or Shamanic Journeying is an altered state of consciousness wherein you enter a realm called non-ordinary reality. By journeying you can gather knowledge and perform healing in ways that are not accessible in ordinary waking reality. How does shamanism work? Some people think that in shamanic healing journeying, the spirit leaves the body and a person is being healed by spirit helpers. Others think that shamanic journeying allows access to one's own intuition, which may otherwise be drowned out by the prattle of everyday thinking or by anxiety; and that it is a way of engaging a person's subconscious desires for healing. Shamanic healing may not cure physical or psychological illness, but it may help one gain psychic energy that will allow one better to handle illness. Shamanic healing therefore is best used in conjunction with other treatments, not as a substitute for them. Connection with a Power Animal A power animal protects you physically and provides you with emotional support, wisdom, and vital energy. Some people think a power animal is a spirit being that stays with you because it cares for you and enjoys being able to experience life in a physical body. Others think a power animal is a symbol for one's subconscious wisdom. Almost everybody has a power animal; some have several. (Perhaps you had an "invisible animal friend" as a child or have always been fascinated with a particular kind of animal. This animal may be your Power Animal). A person may, in the course of life, lose contact with the power animal, thereby losing the animal's protection, wisdom, and energy. If you lose contact with your Power Animal, you may feel dispirited, or you may become sick easily. The Shamanic Astral Projection technique of Power Animal Retrieval can restore a person's connection to a Power Animal. A person can also journey to find his or her own Power Animal. To maintain a connection with your Power Animal, take the time to learn about your animal, learn to feel its presence, communicate with it, and honor it by doing things that it enjoys. Free flow of emotional and physical energy Health requires a free flow of energy that one can use to accomplish one's desires in the world. But one's energy can become blocked in various ways. People who have lost parts of their life essence, who have been ill, who have lost connection with a Power Animal, or who are regularly exposed to emotionally stressful situations are vulnerable to intrusions or "psychic infections" that block a person's connection with self or drain a person's energy. An intrusion can be thought of either as a foreign energy being that takes up residence in a person's psychic body (a psychic infection), or as a psychic structure (an emotional wall or barrier) that a person built to keep herself safe from harm, but that now is blocking some of his/her energy expression. A person with an intrusion might feel drained or ill, might have aches and pains, might have nightmares or other fears. A shamanic healer can find and remove intrusions and barriers in a healing ritual called extraction. A sense of purpose A sense of purpose is necessary to happiness. The person who loves and cares about the world and fellow beings, who wants to make some small part of the universe a better place, has a sense of purpose. A person can find a sense of purpose in life by seeking knowledge and direction through shamanic journeys, divinations, and rituals. One can do this alone, or with a group of people engaged in similar quests. Versão em Português em baixo. Since posting the video of the Beamish Open Air Museum, featuring a Porto (Portugal) tram, I have been requested to upload a video of Porto cars in their "natural environment". This video is dedicated to Sr J. R. Rocha, former electrical chief of Boa Vista depot, who put aside important material over many years, which formed the basis of the excellent technical museum in Massarelos. The city of Porto (Cidade Invicta - Unconquered City) once boasted an extensive tram system which was ultimately reduced to one long route (No 18). This must rank as being one of the most interesting and scenic in the tramway world, traversing traditional city streets, steep hills, a run along the riverside and a long central reservation. In May 1996 its status was reduced to a "Heritage Line", although it continued to provide a public service for some years, until it was truncated to its present form, running along the riverside and up into town, mainly on pavement reservation. In 1996 I decided to give up my old super 8mm sound camera and "convert" to video. This is my first attempt. The last day of actual public service was on a bank holiday Saturday, on which there was an important World Cup qualifying match, so the road traffic was relatively light. I walked virtually the entire route, filming as I went. Constrained for some years by expensive film, this was a wonderful opportunity to use the features of a video camera (powerful zoom, long shots etc) and capture all the extra scenes that you couldn't afford with film. In retrospect I hope it is an interesting record of the route as it was then. As you will see, the trams in Porto are driven with style and panache (and as if there was no tomorrow!) The local enthusiasts appear on the last run, giving out a pamphlet protesting at the status change. The love they have for their trams comes across in these atmospheric scenes, which include a drunk, hilariously entering into the drama of the moment, and adding his noisy opinion. It is clear, also, that the citizens of Porto, together with their elected representatives, had a great love of their trams, resulting in the most scenic parts of route 18 being preserved in operation to this day. Here is the line the way it was. Infelizmente, Sr Rocha morreu no início deste mês.
